Is it Okay to eat Past 7:30pm?

Sorry, Oprah, but you’re wrong. It’s OKAY to eat past 7:30 pm!

Do you remember Oprah swearing that her weight loss was a result of her saying bye bye to food past 7:30 pm?! Or am I the only one who watched Oprah? {I was a bit obsessed}. Anyways, everyone followed suit, thinking it was the next best thing and THE answer. But this philosophy is completely inaccurate.

I recently had a client ask if it was okay to eat past 7:30 pm because of something she’d read. Her frustration was that she was often hungry after 7:30 pm. As I thought about her question it dawned on me – I used to think the same thing.

I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage, “After six it sticks.” And if you haven’t, I’m sure you’ve been told you shouldn’t eat after 7:30. So I wanted to clear the air and answer your burning question.

Eating past 7:30 pm

Yes, yes you can. But I do have some tips and advice about what to eat in the evenings. I think the real issue isn’t the time we eat but WHAT we are eating. Most of us don’t crave veggies + hummus while we are watching Scandal {You guys, it’s the last season, I can’t even!}. No, we crave the chocolate + popcorn + chips + ice cream...all the things that probably aren’t good to eat right before bed or going to help us reach our goals

If you’re hungry, truly hungry, you need to eat. Always. Starving yourself will cause more harm than good and slow down your metabolism.

Keeping your blood sugar levels steady is important for fat burning, weight loss, energy, a high functioning metabolism, and curbing cravings. Eating a small, balanced, healthy snack before bed can help your blood sugar stay stable and not dip so low in the middle of the night.

What should I eat past 7:30 pm

So what should I eat?  Ah, the real question, right?!

Don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you hanging. Here are some of my go-to snacks in the evenings:

  1. Veggies + hummus or almonds

  2. Apple + peanut butter

  3. ½ cup oatmeal + 1 tbs nut butter

  4. Hard boiled egg + mixed nuts

  5. ½ banana drizzled with 1 tbs almond butter + 1 tbs chocolate chips

  6. Roasted chickpeas

  7. Celery + almond butter

  8. 2 energy bites
