4 Healthier Super Bowl Snacks

The Super Bowl is on Sunday and I’m going to be completely honest: I’m only there for the food and time with friends. Oh, and the commercials. Let’s be honest, I have 3 kids, so I’m not sure I’d be watching the game even if I wanted to.

What’s your favorite part: food, commercials, time with friends, or of course, watching the game?

Whether you’re really into football and can’t wait to watch the Big Game or all you care about is the food, you need some yummy healthier options for your party. And I’m sharing my top four favorite healthier Super Bowl snacks to wow your friends.

This morning on Channel 5 We Are Iowa I shared four healthier options for the Big Game. Fun fact: research revealed that average American consumes 2,400 calories while watching the Big Game. So remember to be mindful and bring some healthier options to throw into the mix.

dairy free buffalo dip

Buffalo Dip

I polled you on my Instagram stories and the #1 item you wanted to see healthified was buffalo dip! So I took that to heart and made a dairy-free buffalo dip…don’t be scared away because it’s dairy-free…I normally don’t even like buffalo dips and I could not stop eating this one!

You can easily add 1-2 cups shredded chicken if you wanted to add more bulk to this or black beans would be delicious too.

Serve with your favorite tortilla chips, carrots, celery, cucumbers, or crackers. The possibilities are endless.

Ingredients

1 cup Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil Mayonaise

1/3 cup hot sauce or more to taste (I used Lola’s Fine Hot Sauce Original)

4 green onions, sliced

1/4 cup nutritional yeast

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp dried dill

1/2 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Place all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Feel free to taste and add more hot sauce if you prefer.

  3. Transfer to a small baking dish and smooth out the top with a spatula.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the edges are lightly browned and bubbly.

healthy gluten free fruit pizza

Gluten-Free Fruit Pizza

When you’re going to a Super Bowl party you need a dessert that will feed a crowd and this one is perfect. This recipe for fruit pizza is healthier for you and made with better for you ingredients. Most fruit pizzas are made with lots of sugar and cream cheese. This one is made with less sugar plus I used coconut sugar instead of white sugar which has a lower glycemic level to prevent blood sugar levels from spiking.

And instead of the cream cheese frosting, I used dairy-free cream cheese with coconut whip. It’s creamy and pairs perfectly with the fruit and cookie crust.

The great thing about this recipe is that you can choose to make mini fruit pizzas or one big pizza! The dough will make either 20 cookies or a 12 1/2” size pizza! I’ve made both and they are equally as good.

healthy buffalo chicken bites

Baked Buffalo Chicken Bites

I know wings are super popular but I thought I’d switch things up and make chicken bites with a yummy buffalo sauce. Plus, these are easier to eat and less messy. Can you tell the mom in me is coming out?! You still get the amazing flavor and these are gluten-free.

Dip them in your favorite blue cheese or ranch dressing. I’ve got Tessamae’s Creamy Ranch dressing on hand for ours because it has cleaner ingredients.

Ingredients

1 lb chicken, cut into small chunks

1 cup almond flour

1 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp salt

1 egg

Buffalo Sauce

1/2 cup hot sauce (I used Lola’s Fine Hot Sauce Original)

2 tbsp butter, melted

1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 tsp garlic powder

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. In a small bowl, mix almond flour, salt, and garlic powder together.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg.

  4. One by one, dredge the chicken pieces into the egg and then dip into the flour mixture. Roll until covered with flour mixture and place on baking sheet in a single layer.

  5. Bake for 15 minutes.

  6. While the chicken bakes, mix together ingredients for the sauce.

  7. Combine baked chicken and buffalo sauce and stir gently until well combined. Add the chicken back to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
